How common is Cervical Cancer? Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer In India after breast cancer. It contributes to approximately 6 –29% of all cancers in women. It is estimated that about 160 million women between the ages of 30 and 59 years are at risk of developing cervical cancer in India , with 96,922 new cases registered in 2018 alone. Unfortunately, India has the highest number of deaths due to cervical cancer. Every 7 minutes, a woman dies in India due to cervical cancer, which means every day more than 200 women die due to cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is fully preventable and treatable if detected early, yet the number of cases is increasing in India. Cervical cancer is caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
